Government Arts College now known as Government College (Autonomous) is one of the Oldest Colleges in India. It is located on the banks of River Godavari in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, India. It was established as a School in 1853 and upgraded to a College in 1885.

Profile

The Government Arts College was started as a District school in 1853 and was upgraded as a Provincial school of Madras Presidency in 1868. It was made as College in 1885. It was affiliated to University of Madras in 1891. It was reaffiliated to Andhra University in 1926. Autonomous status to this college was granted by University Grants Commission during the academic year 2000–01. The college was accredited with 'A' grade by National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) in 2004.
